2008 will witness a great leap in the history of Anhui railways construction.
In 2008, the construction of the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway started. Anhui, as one of the provinces lying along the new rail line, will invest 18.9 billion yuan in the building of Anhui section of the Express Railway, which will bring the province into a close link with two major economic circles in the Bohai Bay and the Yangtze River Delta.
In 2008, the Hefei-Nanjing Express Railway will officially open to traffic. By then, it will take only 45 minutes from Hefei to Nanjing, resulting in frequent exchanges between two cities.
Also in 2008, the Hefei-Wuhan Express Railway will be completed and open to traffic by the end of the year, shortening the traveling time to 2 hours from more than 10 hours before, and Anhuinese will travel to Wuhan directly instead of going round Henan Province.
Anhui is ambitious enough to boost its economic growth in the central region by accelerating the railway construction. By 2020, Anhui will invest more than a hundred billion yuan in the construction of 2,850-kilometer-long railways, which will establish its important place as a major railway junction connecting the east with the center and the west, the south with the north, enabling Anhui to be completely integrated into the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle, and speeding up the rise of Anhui in the Central China.
Lying between the Yangtze River and Huaihe River, Hefei is the capital city of Anhui Province and is ranked as one of the fifty strongest cities in China. Close to the coastal area, Hefei plays an important part in connecting the eastern and western areas of China while also linking the south and the north.
