1.College is not an ivory tower
People often say that college is an ivory tower and life on campus is cut off from the harsh realities of the real world. College may have been an ivory tower before, but it is not so any more. We college students are under various kinds of pressures. First of all, most of us are burdened with a heavy tuition fee, which keeps on increasing every year. So some of us have to work over ten hours every week. Life for those who can get financial help from their parents is not easy either, as they very often have to follow their parents’ advice and take a major they don’t like. Finally those who are about to graduate suffer from a different kind of pressure: hunting for a job. It is no longer easy for a college student to get a decently paid job these days.
2.Why I Like to Learn English
Whether we like to learn a new object or not largely depends on whether we could find out the interest of it. English, one of the most charming languages in the world , attract me deeply all the time.I enjoy English songs and movies as well as English tragedy. In my childhood, English songs became my best partner. With their beautiful and smoothing music I could sleep sound every night .In all, I like to learn English, and I believe my interest could motivate me to learn more and attain more.
3.My view on the popularity of western festivals in China
Western festivals is becoming more and more popular in China nowadays. A growing number of people in China are paying attention to the upcoming Christmas. Compared with the Spring Festival, the equally high status is given to Christmas by some of them.
There are a variety of reasons of this craze (trend). First, younger age groups are exposed to western culture and lifestyles through learning English. And festivals are regarded as the highlight of western culture. For example, Valentine's Day provides a vehicle for young adults to show their love. Second, the advancement of economy enables Chinese people to possess increased purchasing power. They are heavily targeted by businessmen, who view foreign festivals as golden opportunities to make money. So they desperately try to boost the atmosphere of foreign festivals.
In my opinion,we should put more attention to our troditional festivals. Our home-grown festivals play crucial roles in Chinese traditional culture. And I believe that Chinese festival will influence the whole world someday.
